Reps Reverse Decision On Death Penalty Law, Removing Of Immunity For VP, Govs.

Just 24 hours after advancing two bills aimed at reviewing the death penalty law and removing immunity for the Vice President, Governors, and Deputy Governors, the House of Representatives has reversed its decision on the proposed legislations.
The resolution was announced during Thursday’s plenary session by House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere.
Both bills had passed the second reading on Wednesday as part of the 42 proposed legislations considered during the session.
However, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the plenary in the absence of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, explained that the reversal was necessary to allow for a more in-depth debate by lawmakers.
He apologized to the sponsors of the bills saying the decision will allow the House to engage in further deliberations, given the significance of the subject matters.
